Massage helps restore normal functioning of the body by improving circulation and flexibility while decreasing myofascial tension and pain. In stress related conditions, it can relieve tension headaches and reduce the physical effects of occupational stress and fatigue. It has an overall tonic effect on the body and promotes a general feeling of well-being, aiding in relaxation.

Chiropractic

Dr. Jake Hanna, a Doctor of Chiropractic with a passion for optimizing health, brings a diverse background to his practice at Physiomoves. He graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and holds a degree in Kinesiology from the University of British Columbia, where he co-authored research papers in an exercise physiology lab and competed as a sprinter on the track and field team. His chiropractic training has equipped him with expertise in neuromusculoskeletal health, enabling him to rule out serious pathologies while treating the body as a whole. Jake combines this clinical expertise with evidence-based treatment strategies tailored to both active adults and high-performance athletes.

As a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Jake focuses on enhancing performance and functional movement using techniques such as active release therapy, exercise rehabilitation, spinal manipulations, joint mobilizations, and soft tissue therapies. His goal is to empower patients through education and active involvement in their recovery, helping them overcome injuries and optimize their physical function to thrive in both daily life and athletic pursuits.

With a background in competitive soccer, lacrosse, volleyball, and track and field at provincial and national levels, Jake has a unique perspective on sports injuries and recovery, allowing him to create personalized treatment plans for athletes and active individuals alike. Peter Cavalli received his Master of Physical Therapy from UBC. He has extensive experience and clinical skills, having worked as a Personal Trainer and Kinesiologist for a number of years prior to obtaining his Physiotherapy degree. Peter has completed his Orthopaedic Level 1 course in manual therapy as well as further education in soft tissue release, sports injury rehabilitation, and first aid concussion management. Peter is also certified in IMS (Intramuscular Stimulation) dry needling technique.

Peter enjoys playing a variety of sports, especially basketball and football. He is familiar with the injuries that come with these physical sports. He also enjoys hiking, weight training for exercise and cooking up healthy meals.

Sabrina grew up in South Surrey and played many sports throughout her youth and teenage years before completing her Bachelor of Kinesiology and Master of Physical Therapy at the University of British Columbia. During her time at UBC she worked as a student athletic trainer with the UBC Thunderbirds Women’s Basketball Team, an experience that solidified her desire to pursue a career in physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

Sabrina has experience working with a variety of conditions, including post-surgical, neurological, as well as orthopedic and musculoskeletal injuries. She has a special interest in sport-related injuries but is equally passionate about helping people from all walks of life. Sabrina currently holds her Advanced Integrated Musculoskeletal (AIM) Level 1 Diploma from the CPA Orthopaedic Division. She believes that treatment should always be evidence-based and structures her sessions using a combination of education, manual therapy, and personalized exercises. She also firmly believes that recovery is optimized when clients feel empowered in their care and strives to provide every client with their own unique set of tools to succeed.

Aside from Physiomoves, Sabrina works on the Acute Care Units at Peace Arch Hospital. Outside of work, you can find her playing basketball, snowboarding, training for her next running event, or in a game of flag football – her newest passion. Sabrina is also fluent in Mandarin.

Dave Gifford graduated from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in 2002. Since then, he’s always remained active within the massage therapy profession. Over his years of practice, he has honed in his treatment focus on the cases and issues that are most prevalent in our community.

Christian is a Registered Massage Therapist who graduated from the Langara College program after obtaining his Kinesiology degree from UBC in 2016. He has extensive experience teaching and leading classes in the sports, fitness and kinesiology fields. He was the Fitness Coordinator at UBC Bodyworks, and has taught classes in the areas of cardiac rehab, joint replacement education, seniors weight training, and personal training.

Christian believes in supporting his massage therapy clients through excellent communication, exceptional hands-on treatment, movement-based intervention strategies and personalized education. He strongly believes that massage therapy, combined with other interventions such as physiotherapy and exercise therapy/strength training, will help the people that he works with build self-efficacy and resiliency for a healthier life.

Lisa completed her Master of Physical Therapy degree following a Bachelor in Kinesiology, both at UBC. She has completed level 1 certification in orthopaedic manual therapy. She is a certified mat pilates instructor and working on her Diploma in Sport Physiotherapy from Sport Physiotherapy Canada. She is certified in IMS dry needling through Foundations Health.

Lisa works with Rugby Canada Senior Men’s XVs and UBC Men’s Rugby. She has also been a part of the core medical team for the Canada Sevens Rugby tournament for several years, and currently holds the position of lead physiotherapist and medical manager for the annual event. She has been a part of the medical staff for several local events, including the BC Provincial Rugby Championships, BC Volleyball provincials, Beach Big West Volley Fest, and BC Soccer youth elite programs.

Lisa participated in gymnastics and dance growing up. She has now fallen in love with circus arts and enjoys training both aerial silks and pole, in addition to cross-training in the gym. Ekdeep Sekhon was in the Sport Science program at Douglas when she found interest in pursuing registered massage therapy. She is a graduate of the Registered Massage Therapy Program at CDI College. She’s always had a passion for helping improve physical and emotional health and commits to providing the best care for her patients.

With experience treating a wide demographic of patients, from young children up to senior citizens, Ekdeep’s goal is to help improve mobility, reduce pain, and improve mental awareness. Through the Fraser Health Authority, she’s currently volunteering with SEHAT, an organization who helps increase awareness in our community about nutritional facts in foods that we consume. Their goal is to improve overall health and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Derek Fletcher obtained his Masters degree in Physiotherapy from the University of British Columbia after completing a Bachelor degree in Kinesiology from the University of the Fraser Valley. Derek has continued extensive post-graduate education completing his Diploma of Advanced Orthopaedic Manual and Manipulative Therapy (FCAMPT), dry needling (IMS), concussion rehabilitation, functional range conditioning (FRC), active release (ART) and various other manual therapy techniques.

As an athlete in University Derek saw the benefit first hand Physiotherapy could make, it enabled him to continue his Volleyball career as an Academic All-Canadian (recently being inducted into the UFV hall of fame). He now loves using his training to give back to athletes at all levels and help them maximize their potential. Derek believes each person and body needs an individualized and specific approach to best find how to maximize their improvement. Derek believes strongly in empowering his clients through understanding of their injuries. Derek can draw on his experience and various training to benefit his clients with a manual and active approach. Cheyenne Laatsch completed her Bachelor’s in Kinesiology at UBC in the interdisciplinary stream, which allowed her to focus on her passions: athletics and rehabilitation. This fueled her drive to complete her Masters of Physical Therapy at UBC in 2017 to improve her ability to help others attain their goals; whether that be managing a chronic disease, recovering from a new injury or completing their first marathon! Having been heavily immersed in sport throughout her life, Cheyenne is no stranger to injury and the work it takes to come back from one. She has an interest in all types of sporting injuries and a special interest in the shoulder, back and ankle. Cheyenne’s approach includes education, manual therapy, correction of body biomechanics, exercise prescription and building an individualized rehab program. Her philosophy: exercise is medicine. Professional Approach and Interests:

Since 2012 I have worked in a premier sports medicine practice in Vancouver, and I am excited to provide my services in Surrey with Physiomoves. I’m here to help you get back to doing what you love. As a father, physiotherapist, and athlete, I understand the physical and mental demands of balancing an active lifestyle with the responsibilities of parenthood. I’m dedicated to sharing my expertise, providing practical resources, and supporting others on this rewarding journey. I even created a website www.physiodad.com to help connect with my patients.

In my practice, I use a combination of manual therapy, dry needling, and exercise-based techniques, merging my passion for strength and conditioning into each client’s rehabilitation process. My expertise extends to both pre- and post-surgical management, including ACL rehabilitation, shoulder arthroscopy recovery, and total joint replacements for hip, knee, and shoulder. I enjoy working with athletes of all kinds, including golfers, swimmers, and weightlifters, and I have a particular interest in shoulder, hip, and knee rehabilitation.

Dan Stapleton is a Master of Physical Therapy graduate from the University of British Columbia, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics from the University of Guelph. Dan strongly believes in staying up to date with evidence and continuing education. He continues to take courses and certifications to improve his knowledge so he can best help his clients. Dan has achieved his certificate in Gunn IMS dry needling technique. He has completed his Selective Functional Movement Assessment certification (SFMA) as well as the Functional Range Conditioning (FRC) certification. Other recent courses include the Cervical Spine Treatment pearls by Carol Kennedy and Tendinopathy Management by Jill Cook. Amanda (she/her) obtained her Master of Science in Physiotherapy from Queen’s University and her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Simon Fraser University. She is a health and fitness enthusiast who is passionate about active living. As a former Kinesiologist, Amanda has acquired expertise in therapeutic exercise rehabilitation and practices an active exercise-based approach to treatment. She believes in treating the cause of your injuries and not just the symptoms. Her treatment approach includes manual therapy, posture and biomechanics analysis and correction, therapeutic taping, therapeutic cupping, and other modalities as required. Amanda is certified in trigger point dry needling and received her training through Acupuncture Canada. She is also certified in instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization techniques and manual soft tissue release. Amanda’s clinical interests include (but are not exclusive to) tendinopathy issues, post-surgical rehabilitation, acute and chronic injuries, and neck, back, knee, and hip pain. She also has experience treating brain injuries and neurological conditions. Aside from private practice, Amanda also works in the public sector at Peace Arch Hospital. Tiphanie graduated from the Masters of Science in Physical Therapy program at the University of Toronto in 2009. She previously completed a Bachelor’s degree in Human Kinetics (Exercise Science) at the University of British Columbia in 2007. Her areas of interest and experience are in post-operative rehabilitation, sports injuries, work-related injuries, and motor vehicle accidents. Tiphanie continues to pursue post-graduate courses in manual therapy and has obtained the Level 1 and Level 2 Upper Certificates. She holds her Certificate in Anatomical Acupuncture with the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute, and has also completed both the Level 1 and Level 2 Kinetacore Functional Dry Needling Courses. With a keen interest in providing her clients with the most up to date information on rehabilitation and exercises, Tiphanie has also completed the Sacro-Iliac Joint and Pelvic Complex Course, a “Balls, Bands, and Balance” Course, The Knee Complex Course, and an Athletic Taping Course. Gurtaj Kang completed his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a Concentration in Active Health and Rehabilitation as well as a Certificate in Health and Fitness Studies from Simon Fraser University. During his time at SFU, Gurtaj also worked in a community outreach program aimed to improve health outcomes in sedentary youth. He is also trained in Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE).

Gurtaj grew up as a high-level soccer player in Langley which came with many associated injuries and personal rehabilitation. Going through his own recovery opened his eyes to the rehab field and sparked a fire to pursue an education in Kinesiology in order to help others. Gurtaj strives to provide individualized programs using creative exercises to best simulate tasks and demands of both the home and work environments in order to return patients to their pre-injury functional capacities.

His love of sports has resulted in him not only playing soccer competitively, but also being involved as a coach and a team trainer over the years. Gurtaj hopes to return to coaching youth soccer in the coming years as his newborn daughter comes of playing age. Brett achieved his Master of Physical Therapy from the University of Manitoba. Prior to his Physiotherapy degree, Brett obtained his Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology from the University of Toronto in 2016. His passion for sports rehabilitation is the catalyst for his drive to pursue the Sports Physiotherapy Canada certificate. Since 2019, he has served as the therapist for the Surrey Eagles Junior A Hockey Club and the Delta Hockey Academy, while also acting as the Lead Therapist for Team Newfoundland at the 2018 Canadian National Ball Hockey Championships. For the past 9 years, Brett has held his National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Personal Trainer designation, and he loves working with recreational and elite athletes to help them achieve their fitness goals.

At the University of Toronto, Brett was named a CIS Academic All-Canadian for 4 years while playing for the Men’s Varsity Hockey team. Brett’s passion for hockey granted him the opportunity to dress for a game with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2013 and serve as an emergency backup goalie for the Winnipeg Jets during the 2017-2018 season.
